Fused silica capillary tubing is commonly used in electrophoresis and liquid chromatography, as well as in fabrication of specialized fiber optic components such as splices and couplers. It is produced from hollow preforms in a process analogous to fiber drawing. The resulting tubing has very good diameter uniformity (both internal and external), high strength and very good optical properties.
